The Philippines has taken a bold step toward becoming a premier destination for global remote professionals by launching its Digital Nomad Visa (DNV) under Executive Order No. 86, signed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on April 24, 2025. This new visa program allows eligible foreign nationals and overseas Filipinos to live and work remotely in the Philippines for up to 12 months, with the option to renew for another year.
Why the Digital Nomad Visa Matters
The DNV positions the Philippines as a competitive player in the digital economy. With its stunning natural landscapes, vibrant culture, English-speaking workforce, and low cost of living, the country offers the perfect backdrop for remote workers seeking a work-life balance in paradise.
According to the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO), the DNV not only supports the growth of digital entrepreneurship but also encourages overseas Filipinos to reconnect with their roots while contributing to local economic development.
Key Features of the Digital Nomad Visa
1. Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must perform remote work for clients or employers outside the Philippines using digital technologies
- Must show proof of sufficient foreign income
- Must have valid health insurance for the duration of stay
- Must possess a clean criminal record
- Must be from a country that offers reciprocal digital nomad visa privileges to Filipinos
2. Tax Benefits:
- DNV holders are not considered tax residents of the Philippines.
- Foreign-sourced income is exempt from Philippine income tax—making it an attractive financial arrangement for remote workers.
3. Application Process:
While the program is officially in effect, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is finalizing implementation guidelines. Applications are expected to open by June 2025 via the official portal evisa.gov.ph and through Philippine embassies and consulates.
4. Multiple Entry Privileges:
Visa holders can freely enter and exit the Philippines during the visa’s validity period.
