GROW is currently looking for a CPTU Rig Operator to be placed for one of our clients in the construction / civil engineering industry for deployment to Nigeria.
Job Summary:
The CPTU Rig Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining the 20ton Cone Penetration Test (CPTU) equipment to perform in-situ soil investigations. The operator ensures that CPTU testing is conducted safely, accurately, and efficiently according to project specifications and industry standards.
Reports To: Geotechnical Engineer / Site Manager
Qualifications:
- Diploma or certification in Civil Engineering Technology, Geotechnical Engineering, Mechanical Technology, or a related technical field.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of hands-on experience operating CPTU rigs or similar geotechnical soil investigation equipment.
- Familiarity with ASTM/ISO standards and proper procedures for conducting cone penetration tests and in-situ soil investigations.
- Ability to inspect, maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot hydraulic systems, CPTU cones, sensors, and data logging equipment.
- Strong understanding of construction site safety protocols and environmental regulations, with the ability to perform fieldwork in varying site conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and control CPTU rigs to conduct cone penetration tests in various soil conditions.
- Set up and dismantle CPTU equipment on-site, ensuring proper alignment and safety procedures.
- Perform routine inspection, maintenance, and troubleshooting of CPTU rigs, sensors, data loggers, and auxiliary equipment.
- Maintain CPTU cones, ensuring proper calibration, cleanliness, and functionality for accurate testing.
- Assist geotechnical engineers in conducting field testing, including monitoring penetration rates, pore pressure, and sleeve friction.
- Analyze CPTU raw data and prepare detailed reports summarizing soil profile, penetration resistance, pore pressure, and other geotechnical parameters.
- Record, log, and transfer accurate CPTU test data for further analysis.
- Ensure all operations comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and functional worksite.
- Coordinate with site engineers, technicians, and other personnel to optimize testing workflow.
- Report equipment malfunctions, unusual soil conditions, or safety concerns promptly.
